Description:

Shrewsbury BRC was started approx 20 years
ago and catered for electric buggies in
the early years holding meetings on the
grass field at the back of the village
hall, these meetings were usually rounds
of the Border Counties League and the
BRCA Mid West regional series
In recent years as the trend for nitro
cars has increased over electric powered
the club runs meetings aimed at the nitro
world while still holding a yearly meeting
for the Border Counties League with the
last 2 years running a round of the Radio
Race Car Clubman’s series for 1/8
Rallycross cars . |
 |
The club run two 2 day meetings in the successful
8/10 nitro series the one meeting is usually
on the may bank holiday weekend at Rodington
and in July the club runs the two day meeting
at the Weston Park model show usually in June
.
In 2006 the club ran a round of the BRCA Rallycross
National championship which was attended by
120 of the UKs top drivers and the event proved
to be successful enough to be asked to run a
round in 2007 and this will take place on July
29th at Rodington.
As
with all our events we try to have a social
side to the meetings and on the Saturday evening
before the event we have a bar and disco in
the village hall so that families can also come
along and all are welcome.
At Christmas we have the Ladies race where wives
and girlfriends race together while in most
cases not a lot of racing goes on!! But we have
a very entertaining evening watching their racing
lines.
Club
night’s area laid back approach to racing
and we race any car that is brought along,
With
most people turning up to have a chat or sort
out their cars ready for a weekend race meeting
.
New members an always welcome and our laid back
approach helps new members to settle in and
enjoy their racing with plenty of advice and
encouragement as they go along.
Is
there anything you have learnt that has improved
things at your club or track?
While one person usually runs the event
there must always be a good back up from club
members so that the event runs smoothly we have
a very good crew who will always keep the track
in good order on race day and this leaves the
race director to concentrate on keeping order
on the rostrum and in race control
Any
disasters that you have come across?
Buying a DOS based race program and
not being able to get it to work on race day
and this was on a BRCA regional event and thankfully
the regional officials had a copy of the program
that did work.
Any
advice for other clubs/tracks?
Test your equipment even if you know
it worked last time you used it, its my belief
that all electronic equipment is female and
therefore is likely to play up when you really
don’t need it to.
